Xavier Legette Reveals First Big Purchase With Rookie Contract
By Joe Summers
The Panthers' rookie minicamp came and went over the weekend, showcasing one of the most exciting Carolina draft classes in recent memory.
All eyes were on first-round WR Xavier Legette out of South Carolina. The hulking wideout is already a fan-favorite thanks to his skills and lovable southern drawl, and he's got an opportunity to form a special connection with 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young on the offense.
For now though, he's still enjoying everything that comes with being a rookie in the NFL. He's made his first significant professional payday, and told reporters during media availability what his first big purchase will be.
Panthers' Rookie WR Xavier Legette Reveals First Major Purchase
Legette's parents both passed away before he finished high school, and the first thing he plans on doing with his newfound wealth is remodel their home.
"That's the only thing I want to do," Legette told reporters after minicamp. It's the house he grew up in, and playing for the Panthers means he won't be far from his childhood home.
Barring an unexpected free agency signing, the Panthers' wide receiver room is likely set. Adam Thielen returns after leading the team in receiving last year, while Diontae Johnson and now Xavier Legette look to boost a group that also includes Jonathan Mingo and Terrace Marshall Jr.
Legette has a chance to quickly establish himself as the alpha in this offense, though he'll have the veteran Thielen and Johnson to lean on as he develops. He emerged as a star for the Gamecocks in his senior season, catching 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven TDs to become an eventual first-round pick.
I'm rooting for him and can't wait to see what Legette can do in Dave Canales' offense.
