Controversial Former Panthers WR Attempting NFL Comeback
By Joe Summers
Former Panthers WR Robbie Chosen, formerly known as Robbie Anderson, Robby Anderson, and Chosen Anderson, is attempting an NFL comeback after a controversial few years that left him on the sidelines.
Chosen will participate in the Seattle Seahawks' minicamp this week on a tryout, hoping to earn a roster spot with what would be his fifth franchise.
He was with Carolina from 2020-2022, playing in 39 games before brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.
Former Panthers WR Robbie Chosen Working Out For Seahawks
As a Panther, Chosen had 161 catches for 1,821 yards and nine TDs. His best season came in 2020, his first with Carolina. Chosen hauled in 95 passes for 1,096 yards and three scores that year, though never again reached those heights.
Since that magical season, Chosen has only 926 total receiving yards in three years. At 31 years old, his best days are likely behind him, though the former undrafted free agent hopes to salvage a depth role for a high-octane offense.
Seattle's wide receiver room is top-heavy. DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockette, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba hold the top three spots with Jake Bobo likely serving as the fourth man but it's wide open after that. If Chosen impresses during his tryout, he could certainly make the 53-man roster.
As for Carolina, they've improved the position in a big way this offseason, signing Diontae Johnson in free agency and drafting South Carolina star Xavier Legette. Alongside Adam Thielen, the trio make up a strong pass-catching unit that should help QB Bryce Young take a step forward in his second year.
It's unfortunate that Chosen didn't ultimately work out with the Panthers, though he seems to have one last chance to stick with the NFL.
