Former Panthers Bust Signs With AFC Laughingstock
By Joe Summers
Former Panthers WR Terrace Marshall Jr. was just activated to the Raiders' active roster before their Black Friday showdown with the Chiefs. Originally a 2021 second-round pick by Carolina, he represents the previous regime's inability to hit on high picks.
Marshall lasted three years with the Panthers before getting surprisingly released in the offseason amid an overhaul of the pass-catching group. He quickly joined the 49ers but was cut again before finally landing on the Raiders' practice squad.
While certainly not the first player to flame out in Carolina, Marshall's college production hasn't translated to the pros.
Raiders Sign Former Panthers WR Terrace Marshall to Active Roster
During his time with the organization, Marshall caught 64 passes for 767 yards and one TD. He put up 490 yards in his sophomore campaign but failed to earn snaps and targets otherwise.
At six-foot-two and 200 pounds, he has great size and theoretically serves as a downfield threat, averaging over 17 yards per catch in 2022. Nonetheless, he couldn't find the end zone like he did in putting up 23 TDs over just two of his three years at LSU.
The Raiders are enduring a miserable season with no hope of the playoffs. It makes sense that they're taking a shot on a former high draft pick, though it still signals how far Marshall has fallen. With plenty of talent and limited competition, perhaps Marshall can shine and earn a real shot over the next month.
Carolina's receiver room isn't excellent, evidenced by relying on undrafted rookie Jalen Coker for big stretches. Regardless, here's hoping Marshall makes the most of his new opportunity.
