Failed Former Panther Joins Another Team Ahead of Week 8
By Jovan Alford
Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. was surprisingly released by the San Francisco 49ers last week. The 49ers signed Marshall in August after the Panthers cut the former second-round pick at the end of the preseason.
The 24-year-old wide receiver did not make a single appearance with the 49ers. However, the former Panthers playmaker didn’t take long to find his next opportunity. On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders announced Marshall and another player were signed to the practice squad.
After not playing in a single game with the 49ers, Marshall could have an opportunity to get into a game with the Raiders.
Las Vegas’ wide receiver core has seen some changes over the last two weeks. The Raiders traded star receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets last week. In addition to the Adams trade, the Raiders are without Jakobi Meyers, who is dealing with an ankle injury.
Marshall has the skills to be a starting-caliber receiver in the NFL, he just has to put it together when the opportunity presents itself.
In his three seasons with the Panthers, the former LSU wideout had 64 receptions (110 targets) for 767 yards and a touchdown (36 games). Last season with Carolina, Marshall struggled as he had 19 receptions (33 targets) for 139 yards.
Even though he struggled last season, Marshall played well and did his job in training camp and preseason to give himself a chance to make the final 53-man roster. Carolina was caught in a numbers game this summer but can make a name for himself with the Raiders.
