Appalachian State Mountaineers at Georgia State Panthers Preview
The Appalachian State Mountaineers are ready for conference play and it begins this week with a trip to the Georgia Dome. There they will face the Georgia State Panthers for the second time in FBS play. The first meeting was pretty exciting from a weather standpoint. The game in Boone was a snow fest and the Mountaineers piled on the rushing yards to get to victory.

No chance of that in the Dome in October. That means the Georgia State passing attack will be able to take full advantage of a faster track. The Panthers are 1-3, but unbeaten in Sun Belt play. Their lone victory was a shootout against New Mexico State. One of their previous losses was to the brand new Charlotte 49ers.

X – Battle of Opposites
The Mountaineers have made living on the ground this year with Marcus Cox and company using the spread option to their advantage. Taylor Lamb has been relatively quiet so far this season, but he has not needed to be more than that.
The Panthers on the other hand rely on quarterback Nick Arbuckle to distribute the ball to receivers like Penny Hart. It was this kind of system that did so poorly in the snow.

Y – Turnovers
The Panthers have been a couple of their other games and lost because they gave up the ball. That was true against the 49ers and the Liberty Flames. The key for the Mountaineers will be to encourage this kind of trend. Maybe have Ronald Blair pressure the pocket.
Z – Begin the Season Right
The Mountaineers have been given one of the teams who finished at the bottom of last year’s Sun Belt standings to start with. They need to simply take care of business and not sleep walk their way through Atlanta.
Prediction: 40-7 Appalachian State
