Report: Tim Duncan to be 5 Million Dollar Man

Duncan has been signing for less than maximum money for at least the past two years. He signed a ten million dollar deal last year when he could easily have made almost twice that. Now he is making half of that number has he is about to turn forty.
Duncan is not just doing this to be nice to the San Antonio Spurs. He wants to win another title and the Spurs needed cap room in order to sign new forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Duncan is not alone on the Spurs in making such a deal. Free agent forward David West signed for the minimum in order to join the winning. Manu Ginobli will also end up making less to stick around as well.

All these things have allowed the Spurs to keep their old nucleus of Duncan, Ginobli, and guard Tony Parker while building a new nucleus of Aldridge, forward Kawhi Leonard, and guard Danny Green. So while the franchise has insured its long term health, it will be trying to overtake the Golden State Warriors in its current form.
Duncan was still productive in his 39th year of life. He had 14 points and nine rebounds in around thirty minutes per game. Surrounded by Aldridge, West, and forward Boris Diaw, Duncan can be rested constantly until it is time to unleash him in the playoffs. He averaged four more points and two more rebounds in playoff action than he did in the regular season.
