Punters are the determiners of field position. In the new day of college football, we have seen more coaches choosing to go for it on fourth and short since their offenses rely on tempo and scoring every possession. Still, a good punter can correct a lot of ills. He can give a weak defense more field to get a stop. He can give a good defense a chance to improve where the offense gets it back.
There are two punters from Tobacco Road on the list.

Alex Kinal – Wake Forest – Senior
Kinal was the main weapon that Wake Forest had on offense last year. The sputtering offense did not open too bright spots, which meant the strong legged Kinal had to rectify situations. He averaged 44 yards per kick last year and managed a 73 yard punt. If Wake Forest continues to struggle, Kinal might be a strong candidate for the Guy Award because there will be plenty of punts to judge from.
Will Monday – Duke – Senior
Monday also had a good year kicking the ball last year. He averaged 43 yards per kick and a max kick of sixty-five yards. To give you an idea about the difference between Duke and Wake Forest last year, Kinal had a thousand more yards of punting distance than Monday did. Monday’s chances at winning are less because we assume that Duke will not be punting as much this year.
