The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Charlotte Hornets 106-92 last night in the first preseason game for the rechristened Hornets franchise. It was a game where both teams were missing important members. Gerald Henderson missed the game for the Hornets and the 76ers held out Michael Carter-Williams.

The first thing to say about this game is that it is only the first game of preseason. Yes, I said the 76ers do not mind aiming for the bottom spot in the league. Yes, they just beat the Hornets by 14. However, the 76ers had already played a game this preseason and had the advantage of being on the same court before.
The neat highlight of the game was when 76ers point guard Casper Ware sank a sixty-five foot shot at the end of the third quarter.
Hornets shooting guard Lance Stephenson scored 13 on 4 of 10 shooting. Hornets point guard Kemba Walker had 13 on 5 of 12 shooting. Small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 11 on 3 of 8.

The only real news came from the bench. The Hornets played power forward Jason Maxiell seven minutes, suggesting that he is the current 12th man. Combo guard Gary Neal, in danger of becoming superfluous, played his role of off-the-bench gunner well. He brought in 14 points in an efficient 5 of 8 shooting performance. Neal will need performances like this to insure that his minutes do not up and disappear when the season starts.
Guard Tony Wroten of the 76ers led all scorers with 15 and added 7 assists. Power forward Nerlens Noel went for 10 points and 9 rebounds with 3 blocks. Forward Brandon Davies had 13 off of the bench. Ware had 14 and shooting guard Eliot Williams had twelve. Point guard Alexey Shved had 11 points of his own.
The Hornets are back in action tomorrow night in Greenville, to take on John Wall and the Washington Wizads.
