Rising Tar Heels junior guard Seth Trimble experienced a change of heart, surprisingly withdrawing from the transfer portal to return to North Carolina for the 2024-25 season.

Trimble originally announced his intentions to transfer two weeks ago, though now will bolster a UNC backcourt that hopes to keep reigning ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis and promising starter Elliot Cadeau as well.

It's not clear what led to Trimble's decision, but it's welcome news for a Tar Heels team that hopes to win consecutive ACC regular season titles for the first time in seven years.

The 6'3", 195 LB guard averaged 17.1 minutes per game this year, averaging 5.2 points and 2.1 rebounds a contest while shooting 41.9% from beyond the arc. While a path to a starting role isn't obvious if both Davis and Cadeau do come back, Trimble should be a valuable contributor to Hubert Davis' program.

He's a quality three-point shooter and a capable defender while suddenly being one of the more experienced players on the roster with both Armando Bacot and Harrison Davis moving on from North Carolina.

The Tar Heels lost a nail-biter to Alabama in the Sweet 16 and are hungry to atone for the disappointing loss. There's no shame in losing to a team that made the Final Four, but expectations were higher for the region's No. 1 seed.

Replacing Bacot and Ingram will be difficult, though keeping Trimble means there's one less rotational player leaving. He'll likely see a boost in playing time as a result and could become the leader of the bench unit unless a starting spot becomes available.

For now, the Tar Heels are tied for the fourth-best odds to win the NCAA Championship at +1400. Keeping players like Trimble and potentially Davis should boost UNC's outlook.
