The North Carolina Tar Heels took a hit today as guard Seth Trimble announced he was entering the trasnfer portal. Expected to take a step forward as a potential lead guard next year, Trimble has elected to leave after spending two years with the program.

He played in 35 games this year, averaging 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and just under an assist per game while shooting 47% from the field and 41.9% from beyond the arc.

While he averaged over 17 minutes per game, it seems Trimble hopes for a larger role elsewhere moving forward.

It's a surprising move and the Tar Heels have several large holes to fill on the 2024-25 roster. Armando Bacot is moving on, Harrison Ingram might declare for the draft, and RJ Davis has yet to make a decision regarding his future.

Now finding a replacement for Trimble becomes a priority as well. If Davis doesn't return, it becomes even more important for Hubert Davis to find some qualify guards in the transfer portal.

While he only played 11 minutes in the NCAA Tournament loss to Alabama, Trimble still scored eight points and proved to be a capable rotational player down the stretch. He could have potentially started if Davis turns pro, but apparently preferred to see what options he had elsewhere.

It's possible that Trimble caught wind of Davis potentially returning and decided to move on, espeically considering that Elliot Cadeau became a starter despite being just a freshman this season.

In any case, Trimble will be a highly-regarded transfer and a name to keep an eye on moving forward.
