Perfect Duke Mark Mitchell Replacement Just Hit the Transfer Portal
By Joe Summers
The Duke Blue Devils have a lot of holes to fill after the news of Jeremy Roach's exit from the program, as all five starters from the 2023-24 team are moving on.
Mark Mitchell is perhaps the most surprising player to leave. The rising junior was expected to serve as a leader for the incoming freshman class highlighted by Cooper Flagg. However, the Blue Devils have several intriguing options to replace the talented forward.
As it turns out, the perfect target to replace Mitchell just became available as Alabama forward Nick Pringle is reportedly entering the transfer portal.
Duke News: Possible Mark Mitchell Replacement in Alabama F Nick Pringle Enters Transfer Portal
Pringle, who served as a center for the Crimson Tide but is capable of playing forward alongside Flagg, averaged 6.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game while shooting 62.3% from the field this season.
Those might sound like underwhelming numbers, but they're more a product of Alabama's run-and-gun style that left most of the scoring to the talented backcourt. Pringle showed what he could do when given the opportunity, notching a double-double while stuffing the stat sheet in both games he played more than 30 minutes.
Against Clemson in the Elite Eight, Pringle played 32 minutes and put up 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block while going 8-for-13 from the charity stripe. He scored in double figures in each of Alabama's final seven games in the regular season, proving he's capable of a larger workload.
He brings toughness, physicality, and a veteran presence, all attributes the Blue Devils need as Jon Scheyer rebuilds the roster. Pringle does come with his flaws though, having been suspended twice this season for conduct detrimental to the team.
Nonetheless, Duke will do their due diligence on Pringle. From a basketball perspective, he's the perfect transfer portal target.
