The Carolina Panthers made a ton of wholesale changes to their 90-man roster on Monday after suffering a three-point loss to the New York Jets in preseason over the weekend.

Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer reported that the Panthers signed running back Jaden Shirden, wide receiver Sam Pinckney, cornerback Will Drew, and defensive backs Chris Wilcox and Quandre Mosley.

To make room for those five players on the 90-man roster, Carolina put cornerback Anthony Brown and quarterback Jake Luton on injured reserve. The Panthers waived cornerback Lamar Jackson, wide receiver Tayvion Robinson, and running back Dillon Johnson.

Panthers fans were surprised to see the team bring back the three rookies in Shirden, Pinckney, and Drew, who are all a part of their 2024 UDFA class. Shirden has reportedly worked out for a couple of teams since he was released by the Panthers eight days ago.

Outside of those three signings, Panthers fans are alarmed that the team waived Jackson, given the lack of depth at cornerback due to injury. Carolina has been crushed by the injury bug lately as they saw Dane Jackson go down last week with a hamstring injury.

Jackson will reportedly be sidelined for six weeks. Then to make matters worse, the Panthers saw Jackson and Brown leave Saturday’s preseason contest with injuries.

With the Panthers fighting a war of attrition at cornerback, they felt like they needed to get some reinforcements in Wilcox and Mosley. According to Darin Gantt, Wilcox and Mosley worked out for the team on Monday.
