Panthers Receive Terrible Injury News Ahead of Preseason Week 2
By Jovan Alford
The Carolina Panthers were hit by the injury bug this week at training camp as cornerback Dane Jackson was carted off the field on Wednesday with a reported hamstring issue.
The Panthers had major plans for Jackson, who would start opposite Jaycee Horn on the perimeter. However, those plans will likely be put on hold as Carolina may not have the veteran cornerback for some time.
According to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, Jackson suffered a significant hamstring injury and will be out for around six weeks.
If you are Panthers head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan, this isn’t the news you want to hear about Jackson. The former Buffalo Bills defensive back was signed to a two-year, $8.5 million contract in free agency.
With Jackson now sideline at least for the next month, the Panthers’ depth will truly be tested as DiCaprio Bottle is next up at the CB2 spot. However, with Carolina’s cornerback room not being the strongest, do not be shocked to see Morgan sign someone or bring in a host of defensive backs for a workout.
Some notable free agents that the Panthers could sign are Stephon Gilmore, Adoree’ Jackson, Xavien Howard, J.C. Jackson, Jalen Mills, and Ahkello Witherspoon.
None of these cornerbacks are bad options and give the Panthers some security on the perimeter, which they don’t have with Jackson banged up. However, Carolina will see if the other cornerbacks on the roster will step up in their next preseason game.
