The Hornets officially agreed to terms with Celtics assistant Charles Lee to become the 12th head coach in franchise history.

One of the most respected assistant coaches in the NBA, Lee has spent the last 11 seasons in Atlanta, Milwaukee, and Boston. He'll reunite with the new executive president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson, with whom he worked with the Hawks organization.

Lee was an integral part of the Bucks' 2021 championship run and hopes he can help rebuild the Hornets in similar fashion.

Hornets News: Charlotte Hires Charles Lee as New Head Coach

Charlotte has a solid nucleus to build around, though the roster still needs significant improvements after finishing 21-61. LaMelo Ball should be back healthy and 2023 No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller looked like a foundational building block in his rookie campaign.

That's a potential star duo, though the Hornets should be aggressive this offseason. Boston has successfully paired two starts and parlayed that into one of the most stable contending franchises in the NBA. Lee doesn't have to maintain that level of success, but he comes from perhaps the most consistent organization in the league today.

Lee began his coaching career at Bucknell in 2012, where he played college ball. He joined Atlanta in 2014 then followed Mike Budenholzer to Milwaukee before ultimately landing in Boston. This is the exact kind of hire Charlotte needed to make in my opinion, as Lee has seen from some of the best how to build a foundation and carry it to success.

The Hornets are desperate to return to relevance. Here's hoping Lee can be the man to deliver that success.
