The Panthers have had a busy offseason, replenishing the defense with a series of familiar acquisitions and signing WR Diontae Johnson to help support Bryce Young.

We're just a few weeks away from the 2024 NFL Draft, though several marquee free agents remain available as Carolina looks to rebuild its foundation and transform into a playoff contender. It's important to surround your young talent with quality veterans and that's exactly what the Panthers should do.

Here's a look at three former Super Bowl champions that GM Dan Morgan and Carolina should target to close out free agency:

3 Former Super Bowl Champs the Panthers Should Sign in Free Agency

1. J.C. Jackson - CB

J.C. Jackson is just a couple of years removed from being a Second-Team All-Pro for the Patriots and would give the Panthers' secondary a huge boost. After trading away Brian Burns, the pass rush should take a step back, increasing the importance of having a quality secondary to give the defense the best shot at success.

While Jackson's time with the Chargers was swift and underwhelming, he's still just 28 years old and capable of shutting down opposing team's top receivers. In 2021, he had a remarkable 23 deflected passes and eight interceptions, quickly establishing himself as one of the NFL's best cover cornerbacks and playmakers.

This is the kind of low-cost, high-upside move that rebuilding teams need to make. Carolina hopes Jaycee Horn can develop into a true shutdown corner, though pairing him with Jackson gives the Panthers an exciting cornerback room as Dave Canales puts his imprint on the team.

New England released Jackson due to his large $14.4 million cap hit and the market seems to have cooled on him, giving Carolina an opportunity to swoop in.

Even if it's just a one-year deal, the former Super Bowl champion can be a savvy veteran in the locker room and teach the Panthers' young secondary as he rebuilds his value.
