Panthers Sign Injury-Prone Draft Bust Coming Out of Bye Week
By Jovan Alford
The Carolina Panthers will be returning to practice on Monday after having a bye in Week 11. The Panthers entered the bye on a two-game winning streak, defeating the New York Giants 20-17 in Munich, Germany.
Carolina will try to build off those wins as they have a big matchup next Sunday at home against the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. As the Panthers head back to the practice field, they made a notable addition to the 53-man roster.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Panthers are signing former first-round pick Caleb Farley to the active roster. The former Tennessee Titans cornerback is out of practice squad elevations, making this next logical step for the Panthers.
Carolina signed Farley to its practice squad at the beginning of last month after the Titans cut him. The former first-round selection missed the 2023 season due to a back injury. He also suffered a torn ACL in 2021, which derailed the start of his NFL career.
However, to his credit, the former Virginia Tech standout has performed well in his short stint with the Panthers. Farley has played 13 percent of defensive and 28 percent of special teams snaps.
He’s also recorded five combined tackles across five games. In the Panthers’ overtime win over the Giants, Farley was ranked as one of the five highest-graded defenders with a 70 grade from PFF. The Panthers hope they’ve found lightning in a bottle with Farley, who is still young in his career to make an impact.
