The Carolina Panthers are coming off a tough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4, which saw them lose veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson to a season-ending injury.

The Panthers’ defense has been in flux through the first month of the season due to injury and poor play. Carolina GM Dan Morgan hasn’t been shy about changing the 53-man roster or practice squad this season.

Ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the Chicago Bears, the Panthers are taking a flyer on a former first-round pick to solidify their secondary.

According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, Carolina is signing former Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley. The Titans cut the former first-round pick in August after missing the 2023 season due to a back injury.

Farley’s injury history has derailed the start of his NFL career as he also suffered a torn ACL in 2021. The former Virginia Tech only played in 12 games across three seasons with the Titans.

The Panthers have been hunting for additional secondary help as they are ranked 19th in passing yards allowed (209.3). Carolina’s starting cornerbacks have been Michael Jackson and Jaycee Horn to start the season.

Farley will likely factor in as a backup to either Horn or Jackson. Also, Carolina expects veteran cornerback Dane Jackson to return to practice from injured reserve this week, per Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer.

With the injuries Carolina has faced on defense, they are ecstatic to be adding depth to the secondary.
