The Carolina Panthers have lost five straight to fall to 1-7 for the season. The 2024 campaign will likely be another lost season for them but they have an excellent opportunity to get a few wins to inject some hope and optimism into the fanbase in the next two weeks. In back-to-back winnable games, the Panthers host the Saints and the Giants, giving them a chance to eclipse their win total from a year ago.

While the players are focused on those two games, the front office will certainly have trade talks before the November 5 trade deadline. Regardless of what GM Dan Morgan does before Tuesday, one thing is clear: the Panthers need to prioritize their future over the present. That means that Bryce Young, who started in Week 8, needs to be the starting QB going forward.

Much to the frustration of Panthers fans, however, the organization may have a different idea. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Panthers have yet to make a call between Young and Dalton going forward. In fact, his team sources suggested that Dalton will likely get another chance once he is fully healthy.

"The Panthers will have an interesting call at quarterback after this week. Will they stick with Bryce Young or go back to Andy Dalton? I've talked to some with the team who believe Dalton will get another chance once his thumb is completely healed, while opposing teams feel Carolina should stick with Young, having nothing to lose while sitting at 1-7."

That is an absolutely ridiculous idea. Dalton is 1-4 in his five starts, and this team is obviously not going anywhere regardless of who starts. What is the point of starting a 37-year-old who will likely not be on this team next season? Why not give your No. 1 overall pick as many reps as possible to see what you have in him?

Benching Young a second time this season, especially after not playing particularly worse than Dalton, would only serve to hurt his confidence more. The Panthers simply can't afford to do that at this stage of the rebuild.
