Panthers Get Frustrating Week 9 Injury Report Ahead of Nov. 5 Trade Deadline
By Cem Yolbulan
The Carolina Panthers have lost five straight to fall to 1-7 for the season. As another lost season at the bottom of the NFC awaits them, Panthers fans have turned their attention to the November 5 trade deadline.
The latest injury report ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints potentially complicates their deadline moves. According to The Athletic's Joe Person, head coach Dave Canales doesn't expect multiple key Panthers to play on Sunday. This list includes Adam Thielen, rookie rusher Jonathon Brooks, and veteran linebacker DJ Wonnum.
Panthers News: Adam Thielen, Jonathon Brooks, DJ Wonnum Likely Out in Week 9
Thielen has been a big part of trade rumors. The 34-year-old hasn't played since Week 3, but the Panthers were hoping for his return to prove his health before the trade deadline. Another missed game could potentially lower his trade value even further.
The fact that Brooks is still not ready to play is similarly frustrating for Panthers fans. The talented running back returned to practice over two weeks ago and logged a full practice earlier this week. This means that Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders will continue carrying the workload in the RB room. If the plan is to slowly integrate Brooks or give him a redshirt year, this could mean that both Hubbard and Sanders may stay in Carolina past the deadline.
The Panthers already made the inexplicable decision to part ways with WR Diontae Johnson only for a swap of a fifth-round pick for a sixth-rounder. If GM Dan Morgan can't find better value in the ensuing trades, Panthers fans might much prefer the team stood pat. This latest injury report may have made that more likely.
