Former Panthers Playmaker Already Cut From New Team After Terrible Week 13
By Joe Summers
Former Panthers WR Laviska Shenault Jr., who was just cut by the Seahawks after a truly dreadful Week 13 effort, has already found a new home.
The Los Angeles Chargers quickly signed the 2020 second-round pick. This is now his fourth team and the once-promising prospect is running out of chances to stick in the NFL.
Shenault muffed three kick returns on Sunday, losing two of them, and is lucky Seattle escaped with a 26-20 victory. Were they playing a better team than the Jets, it's likely Shenault's mistakes would've single-handedly lost the game.
Former Panthers WR Laviska Shenault Cut by Seahawks, Signs With Chargers
In 11 games with the Seahawks, Shenault had five catches for 36 yards and 16 kick returns for 459 yards and a TD.
He spent two years in Carolina, catching 37 passes for 332 yards and a score. Shenault has fast straight line speed though his lateral agility hasn't translated to the professional level, making it difficult for him to stay on the field. Jim Harbaugh's Chargers are surging for a playoff spot with a huge game against the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, though Shenault likely won't suit up until next week against the Buccaneers.
No matter how you look at it, things didn't go well for Shenault on Sunday. He's got time still to prove himself in Los Angeles and earn another contract, though his career certainly isn't going how the ex-Colorado standout imagined when he was drafted.
Shenault probably won't make a major impact on the Chargers this year. The hope is that he learns the system and earns another opportunity next season. Regardless, Shenault's lucky to have found a new team so quickly.
