Former Panthers Bust Melts Down in Disaster Week 13 Effort
By Joe Summers
Former Panthers WR Laviska Shenault, who suffered one of his worst games as a professional in Week 13 for the Seahawks, is the subject of ire among Seattle fans.
Shenault fumbled three kick returns. He recovered two of them and the Seahawks ultimately won in a tight 26-21 comeback, but there's little reason to believe Shenault should be the returner moving forward.
After being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Shenault has failed to live up to the expectations laid upon him.
Former Panthers WR Laviska Shenault Suffers Bad Day
It's not often that you get the opportunity to muff three kicks. One is too many, two is egregious, and three is remarkable. Shenault has only five catches for 36 yards on the season, representing the limited impact he's made.
That'll sound familiar to Panthers fans who watched Shenault for two years. He caught 37 of 42 passes for 332 yards and one TD with the organization, showcasing limited upside despite an impressive catch rate.
Overall, things didn't work out in Carolina. Based on the performance Shenault put forth throughout this season, it hasn't been a good effort in Seattle either. His ability to generate yards after the catch were a major positive, but you have to protect the football to showcase that ability.
The Panthers put forth an impressive effort against the Buccaneers and there's a lot to like about Bryce Young's development. They'll need to do a better job of surrounding him with talent if they're serious about the long-term evaluation, which means avoiding failed signings like Shenauilt.
