Former Panthers Coach in Talks to Make NFL Comeback After Latest Firings
It's been a wild NFL season through nine weeks. Multiple teams are struggling right now, which has led to several coaching changes around the league.
In Week 9, the Carolina Panthers stunned the New Orleans Saints with a 23-22 win. That victory led to the Saints firing head coach Dennis Allen. That wasn't the only move done around the league though. The Las Vegas Raiders fired three coaches, including offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.
With a massive void at offensive coordinator, a former Panthers coach is an option to replace Getsy in Las Vegas.
NFL Rumors: Norv Turner an Option to Be Raiders Offensive Coordinator
According to Jonathan Jones of CBSSports, Norv Turner is someone who is considered to be an option for the Raiders offensive coordinator position.
Turner has been out of football since 2019 when he was last with the Panthers. During the 2018-19 season, he served as the Panthers OC. Meanwhile, during the 2019 campaign, he was a special assistant to the head coach in Carolina.
Under the 72-year-old guidance as the coordinator, the Panthers were ranked 10th in the NFL in total offense (373.3), fourth in rushing offense (133.5), and 14th in scoring offense (23.5). He had the Panthers moving the ball at a consistent rate and the Raiders could use something like that.
In 2024, Las Vegas ranks 28th in total offense (280.2), 26th in scoring offense (18.7), and last in rushing offense (76.9).
They need a spark for the second half of the season and Turner is someone who intrigues them. Funny enough, his son Scott Turner is also an option. Scott was the quarterback coach for the Panthers in 2018-2019 and is now the pass game coordinator for the Raiders.
