Former Panther Lands New Job for 2025 Season
Moves for the 2025 season have been happening left and right around the league. There were seven vacant head coach openings this offseason, and the New Orleans Saints are the only one that hasn't been filled yet.
Thankfully, the Panthers weren't involved in that this offseason, as Dave Canales will be returning in 2025.
They have parted ways with multiple defensive coaches, with assistant defensive backs coach DeAngelo Hall being the latest coach let go.
While that was happening in Carolina, former Panther Chris Harris is expected to land a role on the New York Jets coaching staff according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.
Panthers News: Chris Harris Lands Job on New York Jets Staff
Harris entered the league as a player as a sixth-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He spent four seasons with the Bears, three with the Panthers, and one with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.
During his tenure in Carolina, he started in 44 games, logging 227 total tackles, 14 pass deflections, 12 forced fumbles, and five interceptions.
After retiring in 2012, he jumped into coaching. He's been on coaching staffs for the Bears, Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, and most recently, the Tennessee Titans.
From 2023-2024, Harris was the defensive pass game coordinator & cornerbacks coach for the Titans. This past season, Tennessee ranked second in the league in pass defense (177.3) and snagged 11 interceptions.
He now gets another chance to coach a talented Jets secondary that includes Sauce Gardner and Michael Carter.
The 42-year-old has been around the game for over two decades and seeks to bring that experience over to New York.
The Panthers pass defense was a disaster this season, ranking 23rd in pass defense (224.7). They should have brought in Harris but instead, he will be a part of Aaron Glenn's new staff with the Jets as they look to turn things around.
