The Carolina Panthers are bringing back Dave Canales and his top coordinators for next season. This is an unusual level of continuity for an organization famous for constant overhaul of its coaching staff every offseason.

That doesn't mean, however, that there aren't significant changes among the assistant coaches. Even though the Panthers are retaining Ejiro Evero as the defensive coordinator, his staff will look very different next season. Carolina already parted ways with safeties coach Bert Watts, outside linebackers coach Tem Lukabu, and quality control coach Bobby Maffei.

It turns out the changes aren't done yet.

Panthers News: Carolina Makes More Coaching Changes on the Defensive End

Panthers insider Mike Kaye reported on Friday that a Frank Reich-era holdover assistant defensive backs coach DeAngelo Hall will not be with the team next season.

Hall was a 14-year veteran in the NFL, most notably for the Falcons and the Commanders. A star cornerback, he made three Pro Bowls during his playing career. After his retirement in 2018, Hall spent time as an analyst on NBC Sports Washington and Fox Sports before joining the NFL Network.

He spent some time as the gameday radio analyst for the Commanders before joining Frank Reich's staff in Carolina.

In his two seasons with the Panthers, the defense ranked 29th and dead last, respectively. The biggest factor in Carolina's disastrous defense, however, was the defensive line. Per Pro Football Focus, the Panthers had the worst pass rush and run defense in the league last season. The defensive backs didn't perform as poorly as some of the other parts of the defensive unit but that wasn't enough to help Hall keep his job for another season.
