The Carolina Panthers traded WR Diontae Johnson and a sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for the 2025 fifth-round pick.

At the time of the trade, Carolina was 1-7 on the year and was headed towards missing the postseason again. The Panthers decided to get some value for him, as he's slated to be a free agent after the season. He had a chance to play on an AFC contender fighting to make the Super Bowl but the relationship quickly went sour.

And on Friday, it took the biggest turn yet, as the Ravens decided to let go of Johnson.

NFL News: Diontae Johnson Got Waived by Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore announced that they waived Johnson after suiting up in just four games for the Ravens. He finished with just one catch for six yards with them. Johnson thought he was going to be a big-time addition to their passing attack but it quickly went left.

The Toledo product only logged 39 snaps in Baltimore, compared to the 343 that he had with the Panthers.

Baltimore also said that Johnson refused to enter the Week 13 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles, and was suspended for one game by the team.

That in combination with the drama behind the scenes, the Panthers came out as winners in this trade. Carolina acquired Johnson via trade in March from the Pittsburgh Steelers. They were looking to get more playmakers around second-year quarterback Bryce Young.

Before getting shipped out, Johnson was a quality weapon for Carolina. The 2019 third-round pick had 30 catches for 357 yards and three touchdowns in seven games with the Panthers.

He was gifted a golden opportunity to be an impact player on a team that will be in the playoffs. Instead of capitalizing on this chance, things went down the drain, and he's without a job. The Panthers look very smart with their decision to move on from Johnson.
