Dave Canales Breaks Good News on Embarrassing Panthers Injury
The Carolina Panthers sit with a 3-7 record and are coming off their bye. They have won two straight games after they went to Germany and topped the New York Giants 20-17 in overtime on Nov. 10.
Carolina will be hosting the Kansas City Chiefs, who were just handed their first loss of the season. That will certainly be an uphill battle for the Panthers, but on Friday, head coach Dave Canales provided some positive news about kicker Eddy Pineiro after his latest injury.
Panthers News: Eddy Pineiro Good to Go vs. Chiefs
Canales spoke with team reporters and announced that Pineiro would play on Sunday despite being listed as questionable.
The 29-year-old hurt his left knee celebrating his 36-yard game-winning kick against the Giants in Week 10. It looks like the bye came at the perfect time, as it gave him more time to recover.
Pineiro is a consistent weapon for the Panthers. This season, he has gone 12-of-13 on field goal attempts and a perfect 17-of-17 on extra point kicks. The Florida product currently holds the all-time record in career field goal percentage (89.4%).
The offense will need to be productive to put Pineiro in places to succeed but having him out there is a plus. Thankfully, he's fine after getting hurt. It isn't ideal to get injured while celebrating a win but that's what happened. Pineiro was listed as a DNP during Friday's practice session but it appears the team just wanted to give him an extra day off.
