Analysis: Winners & Losers of Matt Rhule Hire
By Joseph Ochoa
Winner: David Tepper
When Tepper first purchased the team, after promising not to remove the gaudy statue of Jerry Richardson next to two Panthers, he inherited Ron Rivera and his coaching staff, meaning this was going to be the first chance he had to hire a coach and he nailed it from everyone’s estimation.
Tepper pulled a Jerry Jones and made sure he got his guy. Tepper reportedly traveled to Waco to spend time with Rhule’s family and to get an idea of the man he would eventually bring in.
Rhule was supposed to interview for the Giants’ head coach position Tuesday and Tepper didn’t want to run the risk of losing a guy he felt confident with to another team.
Tepper got his offensive-minded head coach with this hire as well, as someone who can help All-Pro Christian McCaffrey thrive in Carolina.
Rhule also built two programs from the ground up in college, giving Tepper confidence the team can make a turnaround with Rhule at the helm.
