Alpha Wolf Showcase Marks the End of Summer Pitch to Recruits

With the summer coming to a close and teams getting back to training camp to begin the college football season, many are beginning their final push to land commitments from recruits before the start of the year, and the NC State Wolfpack is no exception.

The Wolfpack hosted its annual Alpha Wolf Showcase this past Friday, which is a recruiting expo that is meant to build a bond with players from the 2020 recruiting class along with players who are already on the roster.

The event was mainly held, this year, to focus on some of the 2021 recruits as 12 of NC State’s 15 recruits were already at the event. The only reason the other three were unable to attend was that they had already begun practice with their high school teams.

Personally, this is one of the better things that the Wolfpack has done during Dave Doeren’s tenure, as it gives his team an edge in chemistry that some of the other schools probably don’t have with their recruits. Not only that, it gives the recruits a little bit of experience in being around players on college rosters and team building.

One recruit that was there was Will Shipley, who is currently rated as the nation’s top all-purpose running back. Michael Clark of Pack Pride has remained optimistic about the team’s ability to land him, though he still doesn’t think he’s ready to commit yet.

"I don’t think Shipley’s close to making a decision, but it’s huge anytime the Pack can get him on campus, especially considering this is likely his last visit of the summer."

The Wolfpack already landed JUCO defensive end Pheldarius Payne during the event Friday, after he had received a scholarship offer just a few weeks prior. If the Wolfpack can keep this up after the Doeren is gone, it will be an edge that will put them ahead of both UNC and Duke going forward for the state dominance in football.
