  1. Last Call for Solomon Thomas – the Panthers trade up to five to get Solomon Thomas

Few have risen faster in the draft than Thomas. There is a scenario in the mock draft of Will Brinson (4/17 version) of CBS Sports that has Thomas falling to the Titans at five. This would be exciting for the Titans as both they and the Chargers at seven are suspected to be taking defensive backs most everywhere else.

More from Old North Banter

The Titans are looking more like a team that could be an AFC South challenger, but they need more depth than any single player. It was that concern that had them trade down last year. The fifth pick in the draft is worth 1700 points.

To make this deal work, the Panthers would have to surrender the 8th, 64th, and 152nd picks (1 first, late second, fifth). That is almost palatable, and it should be worth noting that only CBS mock drafter has Thomas lasting like this long. I like Thomas enough to do that deal, since the bust potential really only lies in how much talent is left at 64. It is worth noting the Panthers would still have pick 40 in the second round to use.

That is the last trade up scenario. Next time we will look at the more natural trading down scenarios. Those are potentially much more wild and much more satisfying.
