The former Davidson Wildcats star Stephen Curry is among the league’s best. What about history’s best?

The Davidson Wildcats have their favorite son, Stephen Curry. He has risen from being a top college player to being a two time Most Valuable Player and one time NBA Champion. Yet how does Curry stand up to the great players of league history? Is he ready to be measured with such greatness as single name players like Shaq, Doc, or Wilt?

CBS Sports took on that challenge recently. Their rationale was simple. In 1997, a fifty greatest players list was compiled. Since then we have seen the careers of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, and others that were not part of the initial list. What does the new list look like?

Michael Jordan remained number one on the list, but you probably knew that already. LeBron James moved all the way up to the two spot, over Wilt Chamberlain.

Curry also made his appearance on the list. The CBS Sports staff took him at position number nineteen on the list. They recognized his loads and loads of three point baskets over the years. He is rated far above Ray Allen and Reggie Miller, other modern shooters.

Charles Barkley is ironically the number twenty player on this list. This is ironic because Barkley has been critical of the style of play that Golden State uses. That same style of play has launched Curry above him on this list.

One aspect of this list that I did not like was the sheer infusion of modern players. It seemed like there was a lot of displacement of older players by newer players. While a lot of that may be justified, it seems like awfully fast movement.

The NBA season is set to resume and Curry is in good stead. His Warriors are number one in the West and look unstoppable in their best form.
