The Wake Forest Demon Deacons play the Temple Owls at 3:30 PM tomorrow.

The season will end for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons tomorrow when they play in the Military Bowl against Temple. It should be a cathartic experience for them and a big opportunity to end the season on a win and get their first winning season in the Clawson era.

Why is this game different? For the first time in the Clawson era, the team can be sure that no information about their game plan was spread by the means of their fired radio analyst. They can go on to the field with the closest thing to an even playing field they have seen all season.

(Note: I know that many teams did not take up the information offered to them)

Temple is a good team. They won an American Athletic Conference title in a year where Houston and Navy got more national recognition than they did. Their coach, Matt Rhule, was rewarded by becoming the head coach at Baylor. As a result he is not there and new coach Ed Foley is.

If all Temple was trying to do was win this game, Foley makes for an intriguing hire. He knows Dave Clawson well. They were both on the Albany staff together way back in the 1989-1990 seasons. They lived together in a cheap rental. Both men were in the other’s wedding.

Now Foley will deploy a team that uses good balance on offense. That will maximize the need for a good defensive performance by Wake Forest. They need to turn Temple into a one dimensional team by stopping the run. Temple has a two back punch of Ryquell Armstead and Jahad Thomas. Both backs finished the season 918 yards.

If Wake can stop them, quarterback Phillip Walker throws 58% and about an interception per game for the Owls. Then the Wake offense will have to manufacture enough offense to get the touchdown and field goals it would need to win.

If Temple gets out to an early lead, this one is likely over. The Owls go in at almost two touchdown favorites.
