Wake Forest Demon Deacons: There was a Mole After All
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons found their information leaker in an unlikely person.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons had introduced an unusual source of drama a few weeks back. They found key elements of their gameplan in the Louisville Cardinals football facility. While the Louisville staff pled ignorance, the Demon Deacons opened up an investigation to discover what had happened. They finally got answers, but that does not make it any less strange.
It turns out that one of their radio analysts, Tommy Elrod, had been offering information to other schools on the Deacs for about two years now. Elrod was a former player for the Deacs in the late nineties and had been an assistant on Jim Grobe’s staff when Grobe had been pushed out before the 2014 season.
Needless to say, nobody is very happy with Elrod right now. He was fired from his radio job and banned from the athletic facilities on Wake’s campus.

Elrod’s motives were not revealed but the timing of his activities suggests one of two things. First, he could have been unhappy about losing his coaching job or the way Grobe’s exit was handled. That would make his motivation revenge by trying to make the next coach fail.
The other possibility is that Elrod might have needed the money for some reason or another. We will probably never know exactly what was going on. We also will likely not know how much success he might have had with it. Some teams would certainly have turned him down, but the documents found in Louisville suggest that not all of them did.

With this issue out of the way, Wake can focus on its Military Bowl matchup with Temple. The Owls have just hired a new coach in the form of Florida defensive coordinator Geoff Collins to replace Matt Rhule. This should be a tough matchup for Wake.
