Former Davidson Wildcats star Stephen Curry has gathered quite the fan following.

Former Davidson Wildcats player Stephen Curry made it onto the list of the top 250 Fandoms in the FanSided 250. This goes to show that you don’t have to be the oldest guy on the block to garner a big fan following.

Curry made it to 114th on the list. Why is Curry so high on the list? Well he does have appeal on both coasts. He plays for Golden State on the west coast but his roots are in Charlotte on the other side of the country. He is a two time NBA MVP. He was on an NBA title team and the most winningest regular season in NBA history.

He did all of this at 6’3” ish. While still tall for a normal person, Curry is more normal-sized than many players in the NBA. He also is relatable since not everyone can throw down like LeBron, but just about everyone has believed they could make a three point basket or two.

Curry’s origin plays into this narrative. He was overlooked coming out of high school and ended up at Davidson under the watchful eye of Bob McKillop. It didn’t take Curry long to show the world what it had been missing. His shooting and basket scoring took the Wildcats all the way to the Elite Eight before falling to eventual champion Kansas in 2008. He passed up the last shot in that game, but that hasn’t been a bad thing for his career.

He fell down to Golden State in the draft as other teams went in some weird directions ahead of him. He was slowed by injuries in his first handful of seasons. Once those issues passed, Curry and the Warriors took off in a pass friendly perimeter attack that teams just can’t stop.

If he had been at Duke like his brother his rise would have been fore told and not as profound. He would have been more like Kyrie Irving. It is that little man’s persona that makes him so attractive. It doesn’t hurt that he has a cute family to boot.

It is still early for Curry and there’s a chance that he will march further up this list in the future.
