Currently, Smith starts at the point guard position for Detroit. While Reggie Jackson sits out due to injury, Smith takes advantage of an opportunity to run the show for the Pistons.

He averages 10.4 points, 7.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game this season. In addition, Smith shoots 38.1% from the field, 12.5% from three-point range and 100% (3-3 three free throws) free throw percentage.

Despite not shooting well from the perimeter, Smith has put up solid numbers this season. In Detroit’s first four games, Smith has these results:

  • 16 points, eight assists, two rebounds, one steal
  • 11 points, seven assists, two rebounds
  • 10 points, eight assists, two rebounds
  • nine points, seven assists, two rebounds

Smith is a solid basketball player, who will not have a problem making anyone’s roster. His issue is shot selection and utilizing his strengths. Smith’s bread-and-butter is driving to the hole. He excels when he is penetrating a defense, not shooting from the outside. Once he limits his bad shots and finds a rhythm, Smith will find a home in the NBA.
