The Charlotte Hornets and the rest of the NBA may breathe a sigh of relief with news that a CBA may be forthcoming.

There has not been much exciting news out of the Charlotte Hornets lately. The team has been off to a 0-3 start to the preseason. Two of those losses are to the Boston Celtics. None of those games featured Cody Zeller, while Kemba Walker has played in the last two of them.

Good news comes out of the NBA as a whole. According to reports by Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical, the League and the Player’s Association are close to agreeing to a new collective bargaining agreement. Such an arrangement would prevent an owner lockout and insure that the season will go off without a hitch.

No one really wants to see the League shut down as it has in the past. The NBA suffered abbreviated seasons in 1999 and 2011 because deals were not reached on schedule. This especially important as it is the first negotiation of its kind handled by Adam Silver in his tenure as commissioner. The 2011 lockout and current collective bargaining agreement were the work of his predecessor David Stern.

The collective bargaining agreement will likely look similar to the current one in terms of revenue sharing. The age limit for new players does not seem to be a big talking point in these discussions. What is being discussed are contract terms for rookies and how to handle contracts for players who bounce between the NBA and the NBDL over the course of a season.

The NBA has moved the 2017 All Star Game to New Orleans from Charlotte. They continue to hold out the 2019 All Star Game as a carrot if the state of North Carolina would repeal or make extensive changes to HB2 in the meantime.

The Hornets play the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at 7:30. Center Mike Tobey is listed as out for this home game.
