Wyndham Championship: At Stake on Sunday
The Wyndham Championship enters its last day with leader Si Woo Kim at 18 under par.
The third round of the Wyndham Championship ended today in Greensboro. It was a day of low scores and an ace or two. South Korea’s Si Woo Kim ended the day with a birdie on the eighteenth to extend his lead to four shots over the field.
The name occupying second changed over much of round’s action. Sometimes it was veteran Jim Furyk, sometimes it was Kevin Na, and it ended up being Rafael Cabrera-Bello of Spain. Furyk and Na both gave shots back on the final holes and are tied for third with Luke Donald at -13.
The Wyndham is the finishing event in the FedEx Cup season and the top 125 golfers on the money list will make it to the playoffs at the Barclays. The Wyndham is the last chance for golfers to get over the cut line. It has worked out in the past, with participants improving their positioning by thirty or more spots with a good finish.

The other subplot is Ryder Cup points. The Wyndham is the last opportunity to try and clinch automatic Ryder Cup berths by virtue of points. That is why this weekend is so important for Furyk, victory would pretty much put him into yet another Ryder Cup where his consistent style generally thrives.

So Furyk will have some work in the afternoon tomorrow to make that happen, but with the greens playing fast there are any number of things that could happen tomorrow. With that in mind, one cannot forget that Bill Haas is hanging just at -11 and he typically plays strong late in the season.

Temperatures have been kind today in Greensboro and hopefully they will remain that way tomorrow. With several players within five shots of the lead it should be a thrilling finish on Sunday.
