Former Duke Blue Devils guard Gerald Henderson is going home to Philly to play for the 76ers.

The Duke Blue Devils already had an important presence on the Philadelphia 76ers. That would be Jahlil Okafor. Elton Brand graced the 76ers roster last year to serve as a mentor, but he is a free agent now and unlikely to come back. So how would Philadelphia replace the Dukeness of the roster.

The answer is Gerald Henderson. Henderson spent last season with the Trailblazers after spending the rest of his career in Charlotte. Now he gets to take his game back home to where he grew up as he agreed to a two year eighteen million dollar contract according to reports by the Vertical.

The Philadelphia 76ers are a mess at the moment. They did not move any of their big bodies and so Okafor, Nerlens Noel, and Joel Embiid all remain on the roster. Dario Saric is likely also incoming. Then there is first pick Ben Simmons. For the moment they could toy with the idea of using Simmons as a small forward if no other moves get made.

More from Duke Blue Devils

Regardless of what happens to the front court, the 76ers do need capable wing players. Henderson can move right in to that hole at shooting guard that they have and give immediate production. This will also give him the chance to be a starter again which he had lost out on in Portland.

The 76ers are still a few moves away from being satisfied with the off season. They need to add a point guard to the mix of players that they are compiling at the moment. Off the top of my head, I believe Ty Lawson is still available.

NOTE: The 76ers had already agreed to terms with free agent point guard Jerryd Bayless.

Next: Seth Curry to Mavs

This move remains a win for Henderson. He gets to go home. He gets to play. That is as much as anyone can hope for. Maybe the team will start winning too.
