The Carolina Panthers have started Rookie Camp and there are two former Duke Blue Devils working out in the sun.

The presence of the Duke Blue Devils at Carolina Panthers rookie camp is strong. Okay, okay, there are two players there but they are well known to Duke Blue Devils fans. One is former safety Jeremy Cash and other is former tight end Braxton Deaver. The two Blue Devils will be doing their best to show off their skills in the next few days.

The Panthers invited 35 unsigned rookies to camp this year and also brought in some of their own signed guys and draft picks. Cash, drafted rookies, and practice squad players get to participate in the rookie camp as well. While signed players are essentially guaranteed a shot at training camp, there are only five open spots on the initial Panthers ninety man roster.

Deaver is one guy looking for one of those spots. The tight end went undrafted and unsigned in the process up to now. Deaver saw his stock drop as injuries limited his availability for the Blue Devils. His best season was his sophomore season three years ago and he never really recaptured that magic. Now the Providence High product is looking to make an impact on the Panthers coaching staff.

As for Cash, there is a picture of him on twitter at rookie camp. The picture is not particularly exciting or anything except that it shows the number he is wearing during the workouts. It is not 16 like he wore in college nor is it any defensive back number. Instead it is 57, a number usually associated with linebackers.

More from Carolina Panthers

It could be that the Panthers are planning to bulk Cash up some and use him at linebacker. He played a third linebacker spot at Duke while technically being the rover in a 4-2-5 defense. If he is not fast enough to be a safety, then this would be the logical thing to do with him.
