Charlotte Hornets: Some Playoff Updates
The Charlotte Hornets have seen some developments to their playoff positioning other than their loss to the Cavs.
The Charlotte Hornets lost to the Cleveland Cavs today, but that was more or less expected. In tracking the Eastern Conference playoff chase, the model said that the Hornets should lose this one. However there were other headlines that also play into the Hornets’ chances to sneak out one of the top four playoff spots in the East.
- Boston beats Golden State
The Celtics were not supposed to win the game against the Warriors according to the model. That would project the Celtics to 49 wins now, which would move them into the third seed at the end if it plays out the same from here. The Celtics could also gain some confidence from their victory for the future.

- Dwyane Wade misses another game
With the margins being important, Wade missing games for the Heat could reduce their number of wins. The biggest test for Wadeless Heat would be a home game against Detroit. They should have the victory in that game, but Detroit is still playing for stuff. They could steal one from the Heat here.
- Chicago loses
The Bulls losing yesterday means that the Hornets cannot be knocked completely out of the playoffs. So the Hornets will be playing somewhere even if they were to lose every game from here on out. Of course no one wants to play the Cavs in Round 1.

- Batum’s knee
This is dangerous because of how instrumental Nicolas Batum is for the team. Look at the times when the Hornets have slipped this season and they match up when Batum was sick or hurt. Batum hurt his knee in the Cavs game today, and until we know how serious it is it looms as something that threatens to torpedo the Hornets’ chance to challenge for higher seeds.
Next: Race for the Fourth Seed
The Hornets are currently tied with the Celtics and Heat at 44-32. The Hawks are half a game ahead. The Hornets play the Raptors next, but they would want Batum back for Knicks game after that to secure the wins that they should get.
