Charlotte Hornets: Good Shorthanded Win over Bucks
The Charlotte Hornets beat the Milwaukee Bucks despite the absence of Spencer Hawes.
The Charlotte Hornets entered last night’s game with the Milwaukee Bucks in yet another predicament. Courtney Lee was not quite ready to go for the team with limited practice time. Spencer Hawes was injured because it is written that one Hornets rotation member must always be injured. So the Hornets had to build on momentum from before the All Star break with another new lineup and a series of road games.
So Coach Steve Clifford started Frank Kaminsky at center, Cody Zeller at power forward, and moved Marvin Williams over to small forward for some of the game action. He was fortunate enough to have Al Jefferson coming back from injury to bring off the bench. These moves enabled the Hornets to keep their starting back court of Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum intact.
Walker proved decisive as usual. He guard scored twenty-five points including two free throws to ice a 98-95 victory over the Bucks.
His primary help came from Zeller who took advantage of the poor interior defense of the Bucks to score twenty-three of his own. The Bucks have had trouble all season stopping foes when using a post duo of Jabari Parker and Greg Monroe. Despite starting Miles Plumlee, the story was the same against the Hornets.

The Hornets relied on a strong fourth quarter push to hold off the Bucks. Parker did provide twenty-three points of his own and Khris Middleton added twenty more. Parker and Giannis Antetokuonmpo combined for twenty-two rebounds. The Bucks were missing several players due to injury including former North Carolina Tar Heel John Henson.

This was a good win for the Hornets considered the lack of flexibility and that Batum had a poor game statistically. They were still able to get the win. Jefferson played and perhaps he will be ready to handle bigger minutes soon. Another week of practice will surely see Courtney Lee ready to man the wing defense.
The victory moved the Hornets into a tie with Chicago for the 7th seed in the East. The Hornets play the Nets in Brooklyn tomorrow night.
