East Carolina Pirates vs Towson Tigers Preview

facebooktwitterreddit

A new year of East Carolina Pirates football begins. In the spirit of change, the Pirates have a new quarterback that is not even the new quarterback that they thought they would have. Blake Kemp will take up the wheel for the Pirates and test the new offensive sails. Fortunately he is doing this against the Towson Tigers of the FCS, where the Pirates should not get burned if the winds go south. After the defense should be able to keep them out of the doldrums in this one.

More from East Carolina Pirates

Date: September 5, 2015
Time: 6:00 PM
TV: ESPN3
Venue: Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium

Opponent: Towson Tigers (0-0)

The Tigers are also replacing a key component of their team this season. That would be the pass rush as defensive ends Ryan Delaire and Drew Cheripko moved on to graduation. Between the two them they managed almost twenty sacks last year. Their absence will likely aid the ECU offensive line in helping Kemp learn the ropes.

  • On offense the Tigers’ most proven weapon is their running back junior Darius Victor. The Pirates will most likely need to stop him, but if their offense can score enough then Victor should be rendered irrelevant for the rest of the game.

    What We Need to See:

Pirate fans need to see Kemp come out and run the offense in an efficient manner. He does not need to be spectacular, though there is always the chance for big plays given a talent gap with a FCS opponent. Likewise the Pirate defense needs to shutdown Towson completely. Letting Towson hang around in a shootout type game would be a bad sign for the remainder of the season.

    Prediction: 40-7 East Carolina

I am not looking for a shock the world game here. ECU should be too good to let that happen.
