Bednarik Award has Six Carolinians on Watch List
The Chuck Bednarik Award is the defensive compliment to the Maxwell Award. It is offered by the Maxwell Football Club from the same people. This time it is offered to the best defensive player in college football. As a result, there are more positions reflected by the watch list members than there are for the Maxwell.

In fact there are more candidates for the Bednarik Award from North Carolina than there are candidates for the Maxwell. The Maxwell had three players from three different schools. The Bednarik list includes the following Carolinians:
Zeek Bigger – LB – East Carolina – Senior
Bigger was the guy who ran from sideline to sideline for the Pirates last year. He played in the interior part of the linebacking corps and accumulated one hundred forty tackles over the course of the season. He also had 3.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. Clearly Bigger in one the watch list for his abilities of a tackling machine.

Kelby Brown – LB – Duke – RS Senior
One last honor for Brown, who will not see the field after his fourth ACL tear.
Jeremy Cash – Safety – Duke – Senior
The Ohio State transfer continues to make a big splash for Duke’s defense. Cash had 111 tackles and seven interceptions last year. He has every opportunity to have similar stats this year as an all-around safety.
Brandon Chubb – LB – Wake Forest – Senior
The Chubb is back, which means the Wake Forest Defense will not go into oblivion just because Kevin Johnson now plays in the NFL. Chubb had 109 tackles last year for the Demon Deacons and offered a strong presence at linebacker for the new 4-2-5 defense. At 6’1” 245, it is hard to miss Chubb when he is on the field.

Garnet and Cocky
Tylor Harris – DT – Wake Forest – Senior
Perhaps my favorite player on this watch list. I still cannot forget his one man defensive touchdown against Louisville last year. Harris has perhaps the hardest road to the award, seeing as he will need more sacks and more tackles for loss to get there.
Mike Rose – DE – NC State – Senior
Rose had five sacks last season, and three of those came against Syracuse. Therefore the Bednarik crew will need to see more production and consistency from Rose in the coming year. They clearly think he can do it, or he would not be on this list.
