Report: Brandan Wright to sign with Memphis Grizzlies
Former Tar Heel forward Brandan Wright has agreed to terms on a three year eighteen million dollar deal with the Memphis Grizzlies according to reports from Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. The Grizzlies mark the fourth team that Wright has played for in the last year. He was originally on the Dallas Mavericks. He was sent to Boston in the Rajon Rondo trade. Boston then sent him to Phoenix in the Isaiah Thomas trade. Wright became a free agent and now is in Memphis.

It seems that Tyson Chandler continues to have a hand in the career of Wright. It was the acquisition of Chandler by Dallas that made Wright tradeable to begin with. Chandler recently signed with Phoenix, making a return by Brandan Wright to his last team unlikely.
With the Grizzlies, Wright will provide support for the starting front court duo of Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. He can do this by providing good bench minutes and collecting rebounds and blocks. Randolph in particular could use some rim protection help. Offensively, Wright can use his quickness to become a pick and roll threat like he was in Dallas.

Wright fits with the model that the Grizzlies have used the last few years. That model is to use defense and effort to beat teams. Wright can offer both. The question is whether Memphis can add to some of their other shortcomings like shooting. Vince Carter will not play forever.
North Carolina Tar Heels have been busy in this off season. Danny Green re-signed with the San Antonio Spurs. Brendan Haywood or at least his contract have been involved in trade talks. So has Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson. It will be interesting to see where current free agents like Ed Davis and Wayne Ellington finally call home as well.
