Capers Region 5 Seed Mike McCormick vs 12 Seed Steve Beuerlein

Fifth Seed – Mike McCormick

McCormick was the first president of the Panthers and remained in that position until 1997. He was a Hall of Fame player from the 50s-60s who helped Charlotte land a team. His importance was such that he became the first member of the Ring of Honor.

Twelfth Seed- Steve Beuerlein

Beuerlein was the first pick in the expansion draft by the OTHER team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. He joined the Panthers to be the backup quarterback a year later. His first game was a victory over the rival 49ers with Kerry Collins hurt. After Collins left, Beuerlein became the Panthers starter for a few seasons. Ultimately Beuerlein chose to retire on a one day contract with the team.
