So who do you want to play for if you are Laken Tomlinson? Do you want to play for a team with a strong armed quarterback and swift wide receivers that is poised to make a run at the playoffs? How about that.

More from Duke Blue Devils

So when the Detroit Lions took Tomlinson with the twenty-eighth pick in the draft, I imagine everybody was overjoyed. There are few places that Tomlinson could have gone and made an impact in the way that he will be beloved in Detroit. The guy is a pass blocking specialist and he is going to a team that needs someone in front of Matt Stafford.

Tomlinson was an outstanding player at Duke. He was All-ACC his final season. He was All-American from the AP in 2014. He an ACC All-Academic guy his freshman and sophomore stories. He is planning to be a neurosurgeon after he leaves the NFL.

Before he fixes brains, he will put his own at risk in order for Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. The Lions will be gaining a great asset. For two years he did not give up a sack.

Tomlinson will be looking to stop the monsters of the NFC North. That includes BJ Raji in Green Bay. It will also include Lindval Joseph of the Minnesota Vikings. It will also include the rebuilt John Fox defense of Chicago Bears. I like Tomlinson against those, except for a healthy Raji.

The Lions traded down to get Tomlinson by making a deal with the Denver Broncos. That also netted them Manny Ramirez, a veteran offensive lineman. Therefore the Lions ought to be much better served on their offensive line.

Go Laken Tomlinson. Go make Duke proud.
