A lot of the time the pre-draft buzz you hear is complete nonsense, but I actually believe a lot of what I have been hearing lately about the Carolina Panthers, heading into the draft.

David Newton, of ESPN, has mentioned that his gut feeling is, that the Panthers will take a wide receiver with the 25th overall pick, and I believe now that they might. I wrote in previous articles, and social media rants, that I thought OL was the choice for the Panthers. However, the more you look at this wide receiver class, the more you realize, there should be some playmakers there at the 25th pick, who can be very helpful for the Panthers.
David Newton selected WR Devin Smith of “The” Ohio State University with the 25th pick of the ESPN mock draft, early Monday afternoon. I could see that selection playing out, but I would be happy as long as the guy is fast, and has good hands. If the Panthers go the wide receiver route, I think, they will pick the right player to go opposite of Kelvin Benjamin, so I have no worries there.
I also could see the Panthers choosing a running back with the 25th pick, and specifically Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley, if either one are still on the board.

Personally, if Shane Ray is there I would take a good long look at drafting him. Panthers’ DE Charles Johnson is either taking a pay cut or out the door in the future, and that means the Panthers need a pass rusher in this draft. Ray is no doubt a high motor pass rusher, and plays with a lot of heart. If Ray’s toe injury turns out to be false news, I would expect the Panthers to pounce on him, if he is there at 25, if they like him.
I honestly think though, with the up and coming contract negotiations with Cam Newton, that the Panthers will look to show their star quarterback that they are willing to provide him with enough weapons to succeed.

I personally like WR Breshad Perriman, but chances are he will not be there at 25, but if he is the Panthers must pick him for the simple fact, he can play the top of a defense in a hurry. If Perriman is not there, then I could see WR Nelson Agholor or WR Devin Smith being the pick. The Panthers will need to hit a home run in this draft, but I think they are more than capable of doing so. If the Panthers have a good draft then that will set up the team for future success for years to come, and possibly a Super Bowl.
