KJ Brent Transfers to Wake Forest

KJ Brent, wide receiver formerly of the South Carolina Gamecocks, will be playing for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this upcoming season. Brent graduated from South Carolina and therefore will be able to play right away to take advantage of his final year of eligibility. Wake Forest has plenty of need for offensive weapons given their inability to move the ball last year.

Brent is a big target at 6’4” and he offers another option for a Wake Forest team searching for answers. At South Carolina, Brent was underused. He saw limited action as a freshman and sophomore, catching five balls in those two years. 2014 saw only slightly more action as Brent caught nine balls for one hundred eleven yards and a touchdown. Brent hails from Waxhaw, NC so he is at least returning to his home state.

Brent marks the second significant addition from the state of South Carolina before spring practice. The Deacons also picked up spurned running back Matt Colburn to fill out their recruiting class. Colburn refused a grayshirt from Louisville after being Mr Football in South Carolina last year.

Coach Dave Clawson knows that his work is cut out for him. He has to integrate these guys into the offense led by rising sophomore quarterback John Wolford. Brent will offer him a chance to replace some the wideouts who graduated.

Brent joins a growing number of transfers out of South Carolina this off season. The Gamecocks will effectively get the chance to hit the reset button after a season that went below expectations. In some ways, the Gamecocks never recovered from the Texas A&M loss that started the year.
