Charlotte Hornets add Mo Williams from the Timberwolves
Point guard Mo Williams was acquired by the Charlotte Hornets from the Minnesota Timberwolves yesterday. Williams and third year guard Troy Daniels came over in exchange for Gary Neal and a future second round pick. This was reported by Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. The Hornets will cut Eliot Williams to make this move work.

Williams is a combo guard who can offer some replacement for some of Kemba Walker’s minutes now and then play some off-guard when Walker finally comes back. You will probably see this pairing between Williams and Brian Roberts some in the coming games. So he is like having some of Gary Neal and some of Kemba in one package.
The question marks with Williams are how much of a specialist he might be. The answer is that he is not. He is averaging 34% from the three point line this season, which puts him with the other Hornets who hover around that statistic. Williams will still be called upon to shoot, but it isn’t as sure a thing as you would like.

Williams has averaged twelve points and six assists on about thirty minutes a game this season. It would be a nice if he could maintain that production while Walker was out. His minutes will get shortened when Walker comes back, unless he significantly outplays Brian Roberts.
As a bonus, we get to see Mo Williams’ full name on his jersey. Or if the NBA insists on Maurice, his real name, we’ll see Mau. Williams to keep him separate from Marvin Williams.
Troy Daniels, the former VCU player, becomes insurance. He is now the emergency point guard. When Kemba Walker returns, Daniels will become superfluous and may not be on the roster very long after that moment.
The Hornets have lost three in a row since Michael Kidd-Gilchrist went down with his injury. Man, can we stop getting people injured? Please?
