Has Gerald Henderson Become Untradeable?
Gerald Henderson has maintained his place in the starting lineup for the Charlotte Hornets all season. Now, with Kemba Walker or Al Jefferson having been hurt, Henderson has made himself responsible for the points load that has been missing of late. Henderson has averaged a much needed fifteen points per game over the last ten games. He has been doing much as he always done it, with quickness and an ability to get to the hoop. He scored twenty-seven in the Hornets’ last game against the Washington Wizards.
Henderson was supposed to become superfluous the day that Lance Stephenson showed up on the roster, but Stephenson has never arisen to the expectations with which he was signed. In fact many assumed that the Hornets would shop Henderson as part of a trade before Stephenson’s slow development. Now, Henderson has made any possible Hornets deadline trade unlikely.

The Hornets are not carrying a lot of big contracts at the moment, and therefore any trade becomes more difficult. Henderson’s salary would almost have to be included in any potential deal since he carries the fourth biggest salary number on the team right now. When the Joe Johnson trade rumors were going around, it would have taken Henderson, Stephenson, and Marvin Williams just to make the money work to acquire Johnson.

Because Henderson is key to any trade and because he is key to the offense as things stand, he isn’t likely to be going anywhere. That means that Charlotte will likely be quiet with the trade deadline coming up unless they are a third partner to facilitate someone else’s trade.
Henderson and the Hornets have been winning with defense as of late, and that trend will hopefully continue. The Hornets had thirteen blocks against the Wizards with Henderson contributing two and bench man Jason Maxiell contributing seven. The Hornets also had balanced scoring against the Wizards with five guys in double figures.
The Hornets sit at the seventh seed in the East right now, and need to keep feeding on a weakened Eastern Conference. That includes tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 PM.
