Eliot Williams to join Charlotte Hornets?
Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Charlotte Hornets may waive Jannero Pargo, who’s hurt, in order to acquire former Duke player Eliot Williams from the Santa Cruz Warriors of the NBDL. The contract will be of the ten day variety. If Williams plays well during the first ten days, then the team might sign him for the rest of the season. Or they could resign Pargo when he is healthy.

The Hornets have been short at point guard ever since the Kemba Walker was lost to his knee cyst operation. Walker is going to be out for the next five weeks, so the Hornets are in need of extra ball handling help behind Brian Roberts. Roberts has played well during Walker’s absence, but there is not really anyone behind him.
The Hornets have experimented with off guards Gary Neal and Lance Stephenson in the point guard spot, but they clearly are moving toward a more permanent solution. Stephenson did have 13 assists against the Denver Nuggets.

Williams is a 6’5” frame, which means that he offers good defensive size at the position. Williams has been in the league for three seasons, spending time with Portland, Philadelphia, and most recently Utah.
This year, Williams has played in nineteen games for Santa Cruz. He started eighteen of those. He is averaging twenty points and about eight assists per game for Santa Cruz. He is shooting about 46% from the field and 36% from the three point line.
Marvin Williams came back for the Hornets in their last game against the Wizards, and the Hornets get another day’s rest before facing the Wizards again on Thursday in Charlotte. No doubt the Hornets will want to resolve any point guard backup issues before they face John Wall and Bradley Beal again.
